2. What are cookies?

Cookies are small data files that websites can store on your device when you visit them. They can help a website function, remember choices, understand how visitors use the site and support measurement and other online activities.

Cookies may be:

  • Session cookies, which generally expire when you close your browser.
  • Persistent cookies, which remain on your device for a specified period or until deleted.
  • First-party cookies, which are set by or on behalf of Slymbee.
  • Third-party cookies, which are set by third-party services used on or connected with our website.

We may also use similar technologies, such as pixels, tags, scripts, local storage or other device identifiers. References to “cookies” in this policy generally include these similar technologies where appropriate.

3. How we use cookies and similar technologies

Depending on the technologies deployed on the website, cookies and similar technologies may be used to:

  • operate and secure the website;
  • remember your choices and cookie preferences;
  • understand how visitors use Slymbee;
  • measure the performance of articles and other content;
  • understand where visitors came from;
  • measure clicks on affiliate and referral links;
  • attribute qualifying purchases or other actions to Slymbee;
  • measure marketing and advertising performance, where applicable;
  • support social-media and other embedded functionality, where applicable; and
  • improve the website and reader experience.

Some technologies are necessary for the website to operate or provide a service you request. Other technologies will only be used where permitted by applicable law and, where required, after you have provided consent.

4. Types of cookies we may use

Strictly necessary cookies

These technologies are required for essential website functions or to provide functionality requested by you.

They may be used to:

  • maintain website security;
  • deliver core functionality;
  • remember cookie and privacy choices;
  • support load balancing and technical operation; and
  • maintain necessary sessions.

Where a technology is strictly necessary within the meaning of applicable law, consent is not required for its use.

Analytics and performance cookies

With your consent where required, we may use analytics and performance technologies to understand how people use Slymbee and how our content performs.

Information collected may include:

  • pages and articles viewed;
  • links clicked;
  • time and date of visits;
  • navigation through the website;
  • referring website or source;
  • device, operating system and browser information;
  • approximate geographic information; and
  • technical or online identifiers.

We use this information to understand our audience, improve Slymbee and assess which content is useful to readers.

Affiliate and attribution technologies

Slymbee may earn revenue by recommending products and services through affiliate or referral arrangements.

When you click an affiliate link, cookies or similar technologies may be used by Slymbee, an affiliate network, retailer, service provider or another attribution partner to identify that your visit originated from Slymbee.

These technologies may be used to:

  • record that an affiliate link was clicked;
  • associate the click with Slymbee;
  • attribute a subsequent purchase, registration or other qualifying action;
  • calculate commission payable to Slymbee;
  • measure the performance of recommendations and offers;
  • prevent duplicate attribution or fraud; and
  • support commercial reporting.

Depending on the affiliate programme and applicable law, attribution may take place using cookies or other identifiers.

Where storing or accessing information on your device for affiliate attribution requires consent, the relevant technology will not be enabled until that consent has been obtained.

When you leave Slymbee and visit a third-party website, that third party may use its own cookies and technologies under its own privacy and cookie policies.

Marketing and advertising technologies

If Slymbee uses advertising or social-media marketing technologies, and where you have provided any consent required by law, these technologies may be used to:

  • measure advertising performance;
  • understand whether advertising resulted in a visit or other action;
  • limit or manage advertising frequency;
  • create or measure advertising audiences;
  • support relevant advertising; and
  • measure campaigns conducted through search engines, social-media platforms or other advertising services.

The specific providers used by Slymbee may change over time. Current technologies should be identified through our cookie preference tool or cookie list.

Functional and embedded content technologies

We may use third-party services to provide functionality or display content, such as videos, social-media content or other interactive features.

Those providers may use cookies or similar technologies when their services are loaded or used.

Where such technologies are not strictly necessary, they will be handled in accordance with applicable consent requirements.

5. Emails and tracking technologies

Slymbee’s emails may contain links and technologies that enable us and our email service providers to understand whether an email has been delivered and how subscribers interact with links or content, where this functionality is enabled and permitted by applicable law.

This information may be used to understand newsletter performance, improve our content and administer our email programme.

More information about how we use personal information in connection with our newsletter is provided in our Privacy Policy.

6. Third-party technologies

Some technologies used in connection with Slymbee are provided by third parties, such as:

  • website analytics providers;
  • email and CRM providers;
  • affiliate networks and attribution providers;
  • advertising and social-media platforms;
  • video and content-hosting services; and
  • website infrastructure and security providers.

These organisations may receive information generated when their technologies are used.

Some third parties may act as service providers processing information on our behalf, while others may process information for their own purposes under their own privacy policies.

Third-party providers may process information outside the United Kingdom or the country in which you live. Information about international transfers of personal data is provided in our Privacy Policy.

7. Your cookie choices

When required by applicable law, when you first visit Slymbee you will be given choices about non-essential cookies and similar technologies.

Depending on the technologies in use, you may be able to:

  • accept non-essential cookies;
  • reject non-essential cookies; or
  • choose which categories of non-essential technologies you permit.

Where consent is required, declining non-essential technologies should not prevent you from accessing the main editorial content on Slymbee.

You can change your available choices at any time using the Cookie Settings or similar link on our website.

You can also control or delete cookies using your browser settings. Blocking some technologies may affect particular website features.

8. How long cookies last

Different cookies and similar technologies remain active for different periods.

Some expire when you close your browser, while others may remain for a specified period unless you delete them earlier.

The duration depends on the technology, its purpose and the provider involved.

Where practical, our cookie preference tool or cookie list will provide information about the specific cookies currently used by Slymbee, including their purpose, provider and duration.

We periodically review the technologies we use and whether their retention periods remain appropriate.

9. Health-related content

Slymbee publishes content concerning health, weight management and GLP-1s.

The articles or topics you read or interact with can potentially reveal or suggest information about your interests, including health-related interests.

We will take particular care before using browsing or engagement information to infer health conditions, medication use or other sensitive characteristics.

If we introduce processing involving sensitive or health-related information that requires additional consent or another specific legal basis, we will provide appropriate information and obtain any consent required before doing so.

10. Changes to this Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes to our website, technologies, partners, business model or legal requirements.
